Vigil to denounce scrapping of gun registry – Dec 3 – 8:30pm
At 8:30 pm on Thursday, December 3rd feminist activists from the Public Service Alliance of Canada and UNB will hold a vigil outside the Student Union Building at UNB to public protest our MP’s support of Bill C-391. Participants will publicly express their dismay at MP Keiht Ashfield’s support of Bill C-391 in its second reading in the House and urge him to reconsider his decision. The event will also commemorate the 20th anniversary of the deaths of 14 women at École Polytechnique in Montreal and demand an end to violence against women. Bill C-391, an Act to amend the Criminal Code and Firearms Act, seeks to eliminate Canada’s system for registering rifles and shotguns and its accompanying database of over 8 million firearms records. In doing so it would allow long guns to be completely untraceable and unaccounted for. Contact: info [at] frederictonpeace [dot] org
